The city of Victoria has roots all the way back to 1834 before Texas was even a state. The area has really grown into its position as a regional trade hub since the 20th century, due in part to its location near the Gulf Coast. In 1971, the University of Houston - Victoria was founded, bringing in a new infusion of young students to the area.

You’ll have to try both and figure out your favorite. For a casual dining experience and great atmosphere try The Pumphouse Riverside Restaurant. Their scenic views of the Guadalupe River are the perfect setting to enjoy their varied menu featuring a range of seafood dishes like Drunken Salmon.

ACTIVITIES

The city of Victoria, Texas, is suited to be the jumping off point for a road trip or adventure. Locally, there is the popular Texas Zoo. For a modest fee that goes to support the zoo’s ongoing conservation efforts, visitors can enjoy the beauty of exotic animals. Children will be especially delighted by the peacocks that are allowed to roam the zoo grounds freely. History buffs will find the easy drive out to Indianola Ghost Town well worth it. While the name may be misleading, most of the historic coastal homes have been beautifully restored and the journey will bring you to the monument of the La Salle statue that marks where many Texans’ European ancestors first stepped onto Texan soil.
